Florida State Trooper Curtis Vaughn was recently nominated by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to receive the distinguished Veterans Advocate Award, given in partnership with the Florida Veterans Foundation’s (FVF) and Florida Department of Veterans Affairs. This award is presented to military veterans who have not only served their country, but continue to serve Floridians above and beyond their call of duty.

A retired Navy Veteran, Trooper Vaughn led an April 2019 pursuit of a suspect who attempted to assault deputies. The vehicle the suspect was driving was greater in size compared to the patrol cars in the chase, and the suspect was knowledgeable about the pursuit tactics the Florida Highway Patrol was using. Despite being shot at multiple times and having to navigate several obstacles, Trooper Vaughn persevered and was able to apprehend the suspect.
